International advocacy activities

The ICPD Program of Action, signed during the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in 1994, is leading for the advocacy work of CHOICE. In this agreement the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of young people are acknowledged. The end of the Program of Action is due in 2014 and there is still a lot to do concerning the implementation and realization of the action plan and a progressive follow up.

To CHOICE it is clear that international agreements are only carried out if the national governments actually keep to these promises and commitments. In a world where half of the worlds population is under the age of 25, and where especially young girls have to carry the burden of unwanted pregnancies, sexual violence and HIV infections, involvement and leadership of young people is essential. The goals, determined in the Program of Action, cannot be reached without involving young people in a meaningful way in the development, implementation and evaluation of policy on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.
