CHOICE at the 2017 EuroNGOs
From the 27th till the 28th of September CHOICE for Youth and Sexuality is attending the annual EuroNGOs Conference in Brussels, Belgium. The theme of this year’s conference is the rise of populism and its influence on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) issues.
Promoting SRHR in a time of growing populism
The rise of populism, the increasing success of right-wing politicians across the globe: the context in which we do SRHR work is changing. How do we cope with these changes? What strategies should we adopt in order to continue our work? During the conference 200 EuroNGOs members and partners, activists, policy makers and like-minded stakeholders from across the world will come together to think about how we can continue to promote and protect SRHR in the future. As CHOICE, we believe young people are an unmistakable and essential part of this conversation and we are happy to contribute to EuroNGOs.
Youth Corner
During both days a Youth Corner is installed in the Exhibit Area of the conference during the lunchtimes. There, you can stop by the Human Library and 'borrow' one of the young people who are participating as human books: they’ll answer all your questions on youth and SRHR. At our CHOICE for Youth-booth we can inform you about our resources and we'll also be handing out complete sets of all of them, including the new narrative of our Flower of Participation.
Side-Event
On day two of the conference CHOICE will take part in a side-event titled ‘The Power of Youth-Led Projects and Partnerships for Countering Populism’. During the event, a photo-wall will be presented where young people share their ideas and experiences in fighting for SRHR. Subsequently, a panel will discuss new solutions and approaches in SRHR. This Side-Event will take place from 16:30-18.00 at the GAMAY venue. The event is hosted by YouAct, in collaboration with Women Deliver, Uganda Youth and Adolescents Health Forum, Women for a Change Cameroon, SEX vs THE STORK, Youth Coalition for Sexual and Reproductive Rights and CHOICE for Youth and Sexuality.
