Now, more than ever, CHOICE needs your support.

The world around us has not become more friendly to us or our work. We have seen rising opposition towards SRHR on an unprecedented scale. The debate around abortion, LGBTIQ+ rights and even comprehensive sexuality education has hardened and become more polarized. We have a new far-right government in our own country the Netherlands (following a trend we are seeing globally), and we are not safe from radical voices spreading disinformation on the topics that we work on. But there’s more, as we’ve seen one global crisis following and intersecting with another. We’ve seen the climate crisis causing hardship for young people worldwide, and specifically for young women and girls as early marriages and teenage pregnancies have increased as a consequence of economic challenges due to the pandemic, droughts, floods and other extreme weather.

Add on top of this the Trumpian politics of defunding USAID, the Dutch government critically slashing funding for NGOs, and more governments following suit, and it is quite bleak for NGOs right now. Specifically, youth-led organisations, who are consistently under-funded anyway.

And despite all of this, we have remained resilient. We are continuing to fight for human rights, despite the backlash, hostilities and insecurity, and we will persevere. It is the spirit and passion with which every single CHOICEr embraces our vision: A world in which all young people have the power to make decisions about their sexual, reproductive and love lives!
