Meet Generation Alive
Generation Alive (in short: GAL) is a kick-ass girl-led feminist organization from Zambia that empowers youth to compassionately engage the needs of their community through action and service. As a movement, the organisation is focused on building the collective voice, power and influence of young women, both feminist and non-feminist. They envision a society in which all women enjoy their human rights and actively participate at all levels of decision-making. Generation Alive's goal is to contribute to the creation of an enabling environment for young women to meaningfully participate at all levels of decision-making.
Generation Alive focusses on women and girls' sexual and reproductive health and rights, prevention of early and forced marriages, women's economic empowerment, ending violence against women and girls and building leadership. They draw their expertise from their diverse network in Zambia which include experienced lawyers, administrators, social workers, accountants and educators. They in turn share this expertise with young women and girls who are yet to or just beginning their careers.
GAL believes in feminist principles and values such as upholding diversity and inclusion, not discriminating based on sexuality, age, ability, ethnicity, language, nationality and class. They also promote social justice, fairness and human rights and always make sure to work with integrity and accountability in mind - awesome!
Generation Alive & CHOICE
Our partnership with Generation Alive dates to February 2016 when we reached out to them with the goal of partnering with a likeminded youth-led organisation such as GAL in mind. Since then we have partnered on the implementation of the Yes I Do Project in the Petauke and Chadiza Districts in the Eastern Province of Zambia. CHOICE has given GAL technical support and funding which have not only enhanced their capacity but also helped raise our visibility in the Eastern Province of Zambia and the country. Generation Alive is also currently providing capacity strengthening to their own partners in meaningful youth participation with skills and knowledge obtained from CHOICE.
All young people worldwide should be able to explore, experience and express their sexualities in healthy, pleasurable and safe ways.
